CALL: 987-0009 863 West 3rd, N. Van. Dear Editor: Just what are the. R.C.M.P. trying to prove by the lottery-type system of giving out tickets to radar- breaking motorists down by the Second Narrows Bridge? Having seen them on numerous occasions, while returning from work, I can only speculate that they have nothing else better to do. Mind you, they could be trying to catch dozens of unsolved murders that have occurred on the North Shore. It is rather silly to see them give some unlucky victim a ticket whilst other traffic is passing the scene at 100K MH. What is the police func- tion? down so it is safe, or catch them after the fact? I suggest that they make themselves To slow the traffic . prominent, and the traffic will slow down. Then, if anyone commits an offence he deserves a ticket...... If you do print this, please don’t print my name and address. I feel sure that I would be a candidate for a ticket myself pretty quick . L.B.S. (Name supplied) North Vancouver Maplewood not that cheap Dear Editor: When we moved into the Maplewood area seven years ago, the housing market was certainly higher here than other areas we had visited. Mr. Sarsfield's suggestion (Sunday News, August 2) that property in this area was cheaper than in other more select, residential areas, is totally wrong as it concerns us. We would not have knowingly moved into a dangerous area, sent our two children to school, which turned out to be only two blocks away from Hooker. ere were no danger signs warning us of chemical hazards. Now I am _ very anxious to hear, after being hit by the new tax rates recently, why our taxes are so high, if we live in a “cheap” residential area: Nachiko Yokota North Vancouver Don’t behead the messenger! FROM PAGE A6 The people to blame for the present housing crisis in B.B. are not the speculators. While risking their own hard-earned money, the speculators have acted to provide more housing. It might not have been any part of their intentions to help solve the housing crisis, but by “buying low and selling Pree Unwanted hair? Their actions compare very favorable indeed with those who say they are concerned about people's acess to housing and yet worsen the housing crisis by maintaining supporting the agricultural land reserve policy and restrictive zoning legislation. Both of these policies reduce the effective supply of land abouta way to EATON'S available for housing with the consequence, as any school child can predict, of uniformly higher land prices. If these self same “public servants” impost a_ 100 percent profit tax on land speculation, as they have threatened to do, they will only succeed in neutralizing the one group that has acc- tually done something about housing.
