A15-Sunday News, September 21, 1980 community roundup [i Trustees seek input on children’s special needs The question is being asked whether our school system is meeting the legitimate special needs of children. To answer this question, the North Vancouver School Board has established a “Special Needs Task Force” to determine how well the special needs of children are being met through present school district services. The task force is con- sidering the following four categories of children’s needs which may inhibit learning and/or develop- ment: Intellectual — these relate to students’ attitudes, learning difficulties, and language difficulties. Emotional Needs — these relate to behaviour and emotional problems. Social Needs these relate to truancy, students’ social relationships, tran- siency, racial and cultural differences, abuse and neglect. ° Physical Needs — these | relate to specific handicaps — and to dietary, hygienic, | health and other personal | needs. Barrett. on their Diamond Wedding an- niversary. Married in 1920 in Toronto, they moved here in 1945, living for many years in Deep Cove and North Vancouver City. Mr. Barrett worked in the construction and building trades prior to his retirement in 1960. Present at the reception, held at the home of their granddaughter, Mrs. Barrie Osborme, were sons David and Don. and daughter Jean, with their families.
