FUEL SYSTEM: ©

A fuel pump pumps the-

fuel from the gas tank

to a

system. These’ devices mix
the right combination of air
and gasoline to ensure
proper combustion.

However before the fuel
reaches the carburetor or
injection system, it passes

( . through a ‘fuel filter. . This
- filter ensures that no dirt or

other impurities which could

clog up the system, are
allowed to enter. .
The carburetor is con-

trolled by the gas pedal
through a series of linkages.
It mixes gasoline with air and
then passes this mixture into
the “intake manifold”.

The manifold leads to the
intake valve described
previously and the air fuel
mixture is drawn into the

- cylinder for combustion.

A fuel injection system
essentially performs the
same function of mixing

” gasoline with air to provide a

mixture for combustion.
However, the fuel is injected
through injector nozzles into
the intake manifold (one
injector for each cylinder).

Therefore fuel injection is
more efficient because the
correct mixture gets to each
cylinder and control is more

_ precise.

gasoline which goes into
making up the air - gas
mixtute which burns in the
combustion chamber.
Therefore, it is important
that the choke is operating
efficiently otherwise  in-
creased fuel consumption or
poor engine response can
result.
