—-—MAIL Box-—= U.S.-style election Dear Editor: Ted White apparently wants us all to move to Florida. What better way to setde an election than with a vood old lawsuit. It appears Mr. White has taken the position that when your oppo- nent has a message that may be getting through to voters, vol- fey back with a well detined piece of legal mumbo jumbo and confuse the hell out of them. Liberal Bill Bell savs he got the information on Mr. White's voting record from the Hansard, the so-called last word on our MIs voting habits. 1 think we should all join Mr. Bell in call- ing for a recount of White’s parliamentary attendance. Oh heck while we're at it let’s hire some lawyers and demand that the recount be done by hand! Only the Canadian Alliance has promised to cut billions of dollars in wasteful government spendiig, and to make accountability to taxpayers a key component of all spending pro- grams. Under a Liberal Government Canada's federal debt has exceeded $560 billion, requiring interest payments of more than $35 billion each year. Only the Canadian Alliance has an aggressive pian to pay off this huge mortgage against our chitdren’s future. Under a Liberal Government, our dollar has sunk to barely 64 cents U.S. Oniy the Canadian Alliance has an ecenomic plan endorsed by the 1999 winner of the Nobel Prize for Economics, Robert Mundell. That plan will restore investor confidence and boost the value of our dollar. Under a Liberal Government we have become the highest taxed citizens in the G7 group of nations. Only the Canadian Alliance has a tax reduction plan designed to put as much as $2,620 each year back into the pockets of the average working Canadian. Under a Liberal Government our justice system has become obsessed with the wants and needs of criminals, while having little regard for the impact of crime on our society. Only the Canadian Altiance has promised to get tough on crime, to overhaul a parole system that has been putting far too many repeat offenders back on the streets, and to pay more attention to the rights of victims. Under a Liberal Government the Canadian Security Intelligence Service has reported that we have become incapable of preventing the entry into Canada of criminals and terrorists through abuse of our refugee pro- grams. Only the Canadian Alliance has Promised to put a stop to this abuse of our immigration laws. Under a Liberal Government there is no such thing as democracy in our Parliament, because all of the decisions are made in the Prime Minister's Office and imposed on MPs. Only the Canadian Alliance has promised free votes in the House of Commons, an elected Senate, and the re-establishment of Parliament as a place of the peopte rather than a place of the Parties. A MESSAGE FROM TED WHITE Dear Voter, Put all of the above together with a host of broken promises, and the under- funding of medicare, and there really is no good reason to vote Liberal. The Canadian Alliance, on the other hand, has a proven track recerd in Opposition, and can do even better in Government. [n addition, at the Riding level, I can promise as your MP that: (a) Just as I have done for the past 7 years, I will continue to divide my parlia- [| mentary time ai least equally between Ottawa and North Vancouver, to ensure that ] stay in touch with both you, and our local issues. (b) I will never be a "trained seal", voting on the direction of a Party Whip. ‘My voting decisions in Parliament will continue to be based on providing accurate representation for the voters of North Vancouver. (c) I will not forget my responsibility to require that those who apply for tax- payer funded grants in this Riding properly document their goals, describe their methods for measuring success, and justify the value of their projects to tax- payers. , © My seven years as your MP has provided proof that I care about this Riding, ; that I conscientiously keep you informed about the operations of Government, and that I-can be trusted not to waste your tax dollars on poiniless grants and handouts. If you want to stay with the tried and. ‘true, please be sure to vote | for me on Monday November 27th.
