Society aids golf students

THE North Shore
Public Golf Course
Society (NSPGCS) is
expanding its hori-
zons.

The group, which offers
free introductory golf lessons
to schoolchildren in North
and West Vancouver, will
offer more free lunchtime
and after-school sessions this
year to elementary, junior

and senior level students.
“We trv to introduce kids
to golf as a life sport.” said
Mel Turner, 2 representative
of the society. “There's more
to be done with golf on the
North Shore and we're look-
ing to take a leadership role.”

from =the Seymour and
Capilano golf courses and
golfers from local driving
ranges take the students

under their wing and show
them the finer points of the
game. Last year the society
gave lessons to U9 different
schools and over 1,200
Grade 5, Zand 7 students.
The NSPGCS also offers
10° scholarships of $2,000
apiece to promising golfers
on school teams who also
have a high academic stand-
ing.
