Soudabeh Dashti North Vancouver Northlands service above par Dear Editor: 1 was troubled to read a recent article in the North Shore News about the sup- posed draconian methods of course marshalls at the new Northlands Golf Club. 1 and my golf buddy are new to the game, this is our first year and we have adopted Northlands as our home course. Because of our inexperience with the me, we are probably not as t as the scasoncd golfers. v _ The staff at Northlands have been very helpful in giving advice and I and my buddy have never felt rushed through our game. Several weeks ago, I slipped after teeing off the first hole. Twisting my ankle, I let out quite a yell. Within a minute the course marshall and one of the guys at the pro-shop had rushed over to check if I was OK. Feeling I would be OK, I said I would be fine and completed the front nine, limping along, slower than usual. We were asked to let one group play through but never were left feeling we were slugs. At the end of the day, the pro-staff were kind cnough to put me in a golf cart and take me to my car. There has been much crii- cism over the fecs charged by Northlands and the way the marshalis treat golfers. We have found them to be fantas- tic and very supportive of new —Aovertisoment— golfers. Sure, Northlands may be a litte expensive, but you get true value in terms of the beautiful layout and the aut- standing service. David K. The tuner, Mr. Harry Van Rantwyk, needed a driver and Howard needed to conserve funds. Thus a relationship that ultimately saw Howard open his popular North Shore business in 1977 began. “I learned to tune and repair pianos over the two years I drove him around,” says Howard. “When he retired, he gave me a lot of his customers and I just kept continuing from there.” And after all these years, is this piano afficionado getting bored? “I have never tired of it!” he says. “I go all over the world buying pianos. At one time I even owned the second oldest Steinway in existence. It was a spec- tacular find!” Actually, there are a few other people responsible for Howard's Pianos suc- cess and Iuwerd wonid like to extend his appreci- ation. “I would like to say a big thank you to the community and all the music teachers, registered and unregistered, who have — supported me throughout the years.
