CREDIT UNION NEWS THE NORTH Shore Credit Union (NSCU) experienced a 1992 increase in both its assets and member returns from the previous year. “Our overall financial perfor- mance was strong and was- highlighted by growth in our asset base of 14%, or $54,2 million,’’ said NSCU chief. executive officer Phil Keller, Memiber deposits rose by $36.2 million, or 10%, over 1991, with loans to members increasing by 11.5%. Total NSCU assets as of Dec. 31, 1992 were $442.3 million. “At NSCU, residential mort- gages accounted for one-third of our portfolio growth as NSCU participated fully in B.C."s excep- tionally healthy real estate market. “In addition, there was a solid ‘increase in commercial lending as well as a steady increase in the personal loan portfolio,’’ said Keller. . Dividends paid -to members reached nearly $1 million in 1992, “reflecting the wise decision of those members who are investing in the credit union in record numbers,’’ said Jack Sright, NSCU board chairman. “In addition to this, we are able to show a 17% increase in retain- ed earnings, to $11.6 million,” he added. By regulations, credit unions * must keep the capital adequacy ratio at a minimum of 4. 5%, with a target ratio of 7%. .
