What's in a name? As far as Diane Thomas is concerned, the answer is “a fot.” “Fhomas, owner of Gifts to Di For, has discovered that she is being unwittingly asso- ciated with the late Princess of Wales. Thomas has received some pointed comments and phone calls about her business name. She has even received a written letter suggesting that, in light of recent events, she should not be trying to cash in on the tragic death of the fare Diana, Princess of Wales. For the moment, Thomas is taking it all in stride. The feisty West Vancouverite was recently involved in a legal batide with a Dundarave developer who wanted to terminate her lease in order co renovate the build- ing. With that bartle behind her, she has now relocated her busi- ness to 1534 Marine Dr. in Ambleside. She says the store has had its name for over three years, Some of her new neigh- bors might not realize that. “When I started the busi- ness, I used to run around saying ‘You should see what I have ordered, it’s just to die for’,” she said with a giggle. She says she has the utmost respect for the late princess and has no intention of using it as a means of promotion. “That really would be tragic — and it’s not my style.” Meanwhile, a friend has told her that their store has a $50 bet on whether she will change the shop name. Thomas wants to advise them that she is the odds-on favorite. Because for her, any other name really would not smell as sweet. Hepatitis B shots to come THE Ministry of Health is making additional hepatitis B vaccines available to all health regions in the province to protect the health of thou- sands of Grade 12 stu- . dents. Said Health Minister Joy MacPhail, “This immuniza- tion program will help ensure that more young people are well protected before being exposed to this serious dis- ease. ] hope many parents will discuss this opportunity to be immunized against hepatitis B with their children in Grade 12." Hepatitis B is a viral infec- tion of the liver which can cause permanent liver dam- age, scarring and, in some cases, even death, The disease is spread by contact with infected blood and body flu- ids. In B.C., most new cases are the result of sexual contact with an infected person. In 1992, the provincial government launched a hepatitis B immunization pro- gram for all Grade 6 students. By this fall, more than 95% of all students from grades 7 to 11 will have been vaccinated against hepatitis B. In July, the B.C. Centre for Disease Control conduct- ed an inventory of the hepati- tis Bo vaccine available throughout the province and found there was a sufficient surplus to immunize one complete school grade of chil- dren.
