BOX B.C.’s logging not like Brazil's Dear Editor: Mr. Hunter’s recent column on the Carmanah is a perfect example of the unrealistic aspirations of the environmentalists in their quest to preserve everything. Sure, logging practices could have been improved in the past but the logging industry learns from its mistakes and through meaningful dialogue with its critics. To subtly compare what is hap- pening in Brazil to the present sit- uation in B.C. is just not true. What is wrong with sustainable development? G.K. McDonnell West Vancouver No turbans for RCMP uniform Open letter to Prime Minister Brian Mulroney: I totally disagree with you to allow turbans to be worn in the uniform of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The formation of the RCMP is part of the history of Canada as a country. I don’t feel the design of their uniform should be changed at all. Immigration to Canada has been on a large scale during the last 15 to 20 years but, except the Indians of America, each Cana- dian citizen is part of the structure of Canada as a country. Telephone 987-7131 Lonsdale Quay Markef 986-4893 Yellow pages pose problem Dear Editor: Coincidental with Earth Day, Yellow Page telephone directories were being left at the doorways of B.C. Telephone Company subscribers, and shortly thereafter discarded copies began appearing for disposal. At this point, I called the recycling hotline and was disap- pointed to be informed that none of the North Shore communities have any provision for recycling these publications. I would have to take mine to Vancouver's recycling depot if it were not to become part of the garbage prob- lem. One ray argue that the publishers of the Yellow Pages have the primary responsibility for disposal of their discards. The fact that the company shirks this task, however, is no excuse for local bodies charged with garbage control be®aving in a similar fashion.
