Abortion ‘more serious’ than capital OPEN LETTER TO CHUCK COOK, MP NORTH VAN-BURNABY Thank you for the April issue of the Parliamentary Report and your invitation to express my view on the subject of capital punishment. | favor the present law on capital punishment, which does not allow execu- tions of criminals. Your letter should have requested from me and your other constituents an opinion on a far more serious matter than executing a handful of criminals in Canada each year — the deliberate killing of sore 60,000 helpless, defenceless innocents each year by punishment university-trained professionals, in public hospitals. As you know such killings began after 1969, when the Liberal government under Trudeau made abortion ‘legal’? (but not ‘‘moral’’)in the parliament of which you have been a member for some years. I, and others of your constituents, believe that it is appropriate that you should attempt to persuade your party to move now and change the law so that so- called ‘‘therapeutic abortions’’ are made illegal, as they were before 1969. She is so near within me and yet so, very far away, across the mighty mountains and the deep blue sea. Why do I love her so? My reasons are too many to mention, but the foremost and greatest is, because she is my mother and my friend. She has never let me down or ,disappointed me, she has always given me her unconditional love - and done whatever she could under whatever circumstances there have been. My mother and I are very alike in many way. We both love nature and God — and each other.
