Knit for yourself

YOU HAVE probably spent

all fall knitting Christmas

presents for family and friends, now you finally have time
to make something for yourself.

The vest and pullover featured
this week are made with a yarn
called Chimera, a cotton mohair,
wool, and acrylic mixiure.

The pullover is an easy beginner
pattern, while the vest, although
easy, is for a more advanced knit-
ter,

Two 5 mm and two 8 mm knitting
needles or whichever needles you
require to produce the tension
given below.

TENSION: 10 sts - 10 cm (4 ins)
with 8 mm needles over pattern.

ABBREVIATIONS: K - knit, P -
purl, st(s) - stitch(es), cm - cen-
timetres, in(s) - inches, Y fwd -
yarn forward, inc - increase, dec -
decrease, tog - together, sl - slip,
psso - pass slipped st over, tbl -
through back of loop or st, yrn -
yarn round needle, yon - yarn over
needle, 0 - no sts, times or rows.

The instructions are written for
small size. Any changes necessary
for medium (M) and large (L) are
written in brackets.

BACK; With 5 mm needles cast on
48 sts (M-52 sts) (L-56 sts) and
work 8 cm (3 ins) in (K2, P2) rib,
decreasing 2 sts (M-4 sts)(L-6 sts)
evenly across last row. 46 sts on
needle (M-48 sts)(L-50 sts).

Change to 8 mm needles and pro-
ceed:-

Ist row: (Right side). Knit.

2nd row: Purl.

3rd and 4th rows: Knit.

Continue even in pattern. until
work measures 23 cm (9 ins) from
beginning, ending with right side
facing. Place marker at each end
of last row.

To shape sleeves: Keeping con-
tinuity of pattern, cast on 4 sts
beginning next 14 rows, then 9 sts
(M-10 sts)(L-12 sts) beginning next
7 rows. 120 sts on needle (M-124
sts)(L-130 sts).

Continue even until work from
marker measures 33 cm (13
ins),(M-34 cm}){134 ins), (L-36
cm)(14 ins) ending with right side
facing. Cast off loosely.

FRONT: Work exactly as given for
back.
