Castle Vancouver would become the Ambleside Castle Teahouse, and the property of West Van- couver, Wagler suggested. Whoever leased the building from the district would pay towards the cost of moving and installing the facility. West Vancouver Chamber of Commerce president Gordon Clark also spoke in favor of the pro- posal, “The proposed site is presently under-utilized. A development of this nature would encourage resi- dents to enjoy the beauty of the area,’’ he put forward. Clark felt sure the castle would thus benefit the local business community. “This proposal is an exciting opportunity for this community,’’ Clark concluded. Although Ald. Pat Boname felt the castle was of great value to the Vancouver area, she also spends a lot of time at Ambleside Park. “And like many people, I like it tie way it is,’’ she said. “‘There’s no question the project is viable, but I doubt if this is the place to put it,'? added Ald. Gor- don Rowntree. “If you’ve read the mood of council, you’re swimming upstream,’’ concluded Mayor Don Lanskail. Ald. Mark Sager moved the matter be referred to the Parks and Recreation Commission for com- ment and to give the public oppor- tunity for input. The motion was successful despite negative votes from Ald. District council enthusiastically approved the logo and banner design presented by Charles Mayrs at Mon- day’s council meeting. Mayrs reiterated the district’s desire for a festive and recognizable {not abstract) symbol! to be utilized during the birthday celebration year. As such, the purple banner has ‘“*West Vancouver’’ written on the sop, 11912-1987" on the bottom, with a large, stylized ‘*75”’ in the centre. The district’s coat-of-arms is set into the centre of the *‘75’’ in the original design. But Mayrs also presented ancillary designs in which a sailboat, tulips, fish, trees, a seagull, mountains and a B.C. Ferry are depicted inside of the “75"’. “This anpears to be a very profes- sionai jub,’’ commented Mayor Don Lanskail. “1 think it’s fantastic, and I feel we should adopt the logo and advise the business community that they can ‘use it in any and all promo- tions,’’ remarked Ald.
