Lynn Valley youths make

herself spending a large proportion
of her time at- Lynn Valley Centre

Since that time Hendrick’s own
program has grown in popularity.
About 50 youths, between the ages
of 15 and 18, regularly take part in
community events planned by
Hendricks, with the teenagers’ in-
terests in mind.

The youth worker has access to
an l1-seat van, and has used it to
take a group of teens to the World
Cup Downhill Ski races, held
recently at Whistler.

Some have also accompanied her
to a movie or to go roller skating.

In mid-April the youths were
back at Lynn Valley Centre help-
ing Hendricks operate a five-day.

Hendricks said she has been en-
couraging many in the group to
volunteer. Two girls are planning
to. work. with handicapped
teenagers at North Shore
Neighbourhood House, while some
others plan to’ volunteer at the
daycare centre there.

“T keep stressing: to them volun-
teer work is what’s going to get
them a job later,’’ she said.

Hendricks said finding employ-

ment is a common concern for the’

youths. She said part of her work

-allows her to counsel teens on
possible job action. Already: she
noted some have found jobs, this
summer at Expo '86. :
