NEVER have a longing for liver and onions. In
fact it could be said I don’t like them. I’ve been
urged by friends who do like them, to give them
a good try, because, as they say, ‘‘They have an
acquired taste.’’

That may be so. It sounds

very Strange sort of attitude
for me to hang on to, (and to
tell you about) because |
think it is awfully dumb of
me! For me to erect, in my
early years, a barrier against
anything and then become so

attached to the barrier that |
find it objectionable to con-
sider finding a way around it
— even as a tentative trial ex-
periment — to do that is

observed West Vancouver
Mayor Derrick Humphreys,
commenting on the venue
for last Monday’s annual
general meeting of the North
Shore Volunteers for Resi-
dents in Care Facilities -- the
Gloria Dei Lutheran Church
in North Vancouver.

Other distinguished guests
at the gathering were
Lieutenant Governor Robert
Rogers and Mrs. Rogers,
North Van-Capilano MLA
Angus Ree, North Van
District Mayor Marilyn
Baker and North Van City
Mayor Jack Loucks.

Following the Lieutenant
Governor’s address and a

short speech by Ree the three
mayors in turn paid tnbute
to the work of the volunteers
in nursing homes, rest homes
and hospitals on the North
Shore

NSVRC president George
Wilson chaired the meeting
and, together with Pastor
Don Johnson, welcomed the
assembly to the Gloria Dei
Church, while Harry Martin
acted as master of

ceremonies.

Tea and refreshments were
provided by the Gloria Dei
Church Women.

like? Dumb!

What if | were to remain
attached, right now, to the
very same inhibitions, |
developed as a youth, about,
let us say, as examples, iliness
or wealth or Germans or
prayer or sex or mediation or
death or pnde or vitamins or
space or even about life
itself?

If f,now am still dedicated
to the care and feeding of in-
hibitions | acquired or was

taught in my earlier days, and
am stull hobbling along
through life attached to them
and loyal to them and con-
trolled by them, it would be
quite obvious to you that |
am a victim of the dis-ease of
intentionat™ deteriorization.
You'd know | was choosing a
dumb way of life.

Horrors! Does all this
haranguing mean | must
order liver and onions next
