Opposition by neighbours
to a proposed group home at
953 Gladstone Avenue in
North Vancouver, was
responsible for killing the
project, Bill Macbeth, the
regional manager of Human
Resources, revealed
Thursday.

Macbeth said the decision
not to procede with the
home was based on his
recommendation.

“This was based on our
early indications that we
wouldn't be proceding if
there wasn't support for it
(the home).”

The provincial govern-
ment announced late last
month that the project,
which stirred up a great deal
of controversy, would not be
going ahead.

“We are still planning to
continue to develop com-
munity based resources on

the North Shore,” Macbeth
said.

But he said, “we are going
to have to develop methods
and

techniques that are

more effective.”

government and that the
proposed group home would

Gladstone home, Macbeth
echoed Jack Davis, the MLA
for North Vancouver-
Seymour, in saying that
group homes are not dead on
the North Shore.
