Thur- man, publisher of Pacific Skipper magazine, has developed a seven-day festival “of sailing films, mainly made by couples who are cruising the deep waters of the globe. The films are interesting, if un- derstandably a bit crude, and the Lido Theatre -in Newport Beach was sold out for every performance but one. The flight down was a nightmare. When we got to L.A., at about 4:30, the lady at C.P.’s counter had our bags staked out and had phoned our hotel and car rental firm to advise them that we were going to be’ late. So, CP were bad guys for bumping us, but good guys for looking after us afterward. | We stayed in Laguna Beach and drove in to Newport Beach cach evening for the movie. During the days that were free we explored the coast a bit. What a difference from Vancouver! I had a vague idea, for instance, that Newport Beach was a smaller, boating oriented, town. I enjoyed the trip, but I'm happy to be back. Of all the places that I have seen in my travels, the one that I like best is right here. Scenery like Hawaii, lots of clean fresh water, trees all around, beautiful sailing grounds—we've got it all. When the rest of the world finds out, we’ better be ready to handle the influx better than it has been handied in Los Angeles or Tokyo.
