‘related Craftsman and Arts
and Crafts styles of ar-
chitecture. .

The Craftsman influence is seen
in the bellcast side gable roof with
front shed, dormer, projecting
square bay windows, rubble foun-
dation and brick chimney.

The Arts and Crafts influence in
this home is seen in its compact
shape, and half-timbering on the
second storey.

The Arts and Crafts style devel-
oped in England in the late 19th
century, and homes built in this
style look like they have been
transported from a rural or village
setting in England. .

Another notable feature of this
home is the side rather than front
entrance.

The Thomson House was built
by John (Jack) Thomson, who
was the watchman at Mosquito

Creek water intake.

Thomson had a son, Scott
Thomson, who was killed in the
Second World War and a daugh-
ter, Helen P. Thomson.

According to the heritage in-
ventory, Scott Thomson’s wife,
Mrs. Ellen Mardy Thornson, was
listed as the first owner of this
home.

In 1920 she moved to Van-
couver.
