A pivotal role in Atom Egoyan 's The Sweet Hereafter got her noticed; her riveting performance in "Guinevere will pet her on Hollywood’s A- Polley plays Harper Sloan who, when we first meet her, seems as uncomfortable in her own skin as she is in her ilt-fit- : ting bridesmaid’s dress. While ditching her sister’s wedding reception for the comforz of a bottle of cham- . ley shines in Gui pagne, Harper runs into Connic Fitzpatrick (Stephen Rea), the wedding photogya- her. “I don’ t like to be looked at,” she confides. Connie gains Harper's trust when he manages to get her out of all the wedding photos. Attracted by the older man’s bohemian qualities, friendship quickly tums to an affair, and it isn’t long before Harper, whom Connie calls Guinevere, moves in.
