All the schools in British Columbia today are hooking up to the P.L.N. (Province Learning Network), putting kids online to cool sites and ¢-mail. The Internet has become an important and fun tool in today’s schools for meeting new people, and finding out what's going on in the world. The kids in our class agree that the Internet is a cool place to fearn, play games, do quizzes, research things for school, get information abour things we enioy, e-mail friends, get pen pal hang out in millions of other cool “The Internet is fund to explore,” says Kelly Quigley. “You can’t get bored because there always something interesting to look through,” said Sara Sharifnejad. Some parents are concerned about their children going into inappropriate sites on the Internet. There are inappro- priate sites on the Internet, but there are ways to avoid them. One way is that the school’s computers have a special program that won’t let kids go into most bad sites. Of course, there are accidents where kids accidenzally run into them. Another way is to search for a type of site by using a search site rather than trying to type in an address. This way you kaw what you're gecting yourself inte. “I don’t approve of bad sites anymore than Vib lec my kids see inappropriate mor ciook through bad magazines or Video games,” says Estha Murenbdeeld. “You have to trust sour kids that they won't purposely go on bad sites,” says Gerry Murenbecld.
