Alison Shaw probably spent
more time with serial rapist
and murderer David Snow
than any other woman.

Shaw and her husband,
Darris, moved to Orangeville
near Toronto in 1988. There
they met an eccentric town
local called David Snow,
Snow eventually became
Darris’s partner in a business
involving the demolition of
old buildings and the selling
of old merchandise.

Snow spent countless
hours in the Shaw home. He
was especially fond of the
Shaw’s baby daughter who
knew Snow as “Uncle
David.”

Shaw always suspected
there was something deeply
wrong with Snow, a know!l-
edgeable antique dealer. No
one in Orangeville seemed ta
agree with her.

Tt was not until Snow was
on the run in carly 1992, sus-
pected of killing two Ontario
seniors, that Shaw realized ~
the true Snow was someone
beyond her worst suspicions.

Shaw recognized Snow’s
handwriting in a note pub-
lished in a Toronto paper
about the dead couple. Snow
would eventually be found
guilty of cheir first degree
murder.

Shaw phoned the
Metropolitan Toronto Police
after recognizing Snow’s
handwriting.

Her court ordeal after-
wards both in B.C, and in
Ontario and her “relation-
ship” with Snow are chroni-
cled in A Friend of the
Family.

The 260-page hard cover
book was released fast week.

In an interview earlier this
week , Shaw, 39, seemed
tired and uneasy. She had

already spent most of the day
doing publicity interviews.
She also arranged to meet
with one of Snow's victims,
Dalia Gelineau, at the News
office.

The nwo women bugged
each other on the sidewalk.

Gelincau was the woman
Snow was charged with
attempting to murder. Snow
gaged Gelineau with her
slip, put a plastic bag over her
head and tightened a wire
around her neck. A North
Vancouver Mountie found
Snow standing over a bound
and near unconscious
Gelineau.

Snow attacked Gelineau
outside the Bridge House
restaurant where she worked.
The attack occurred in the
carly morning of July 12,
1992,
