hat’s wrong with rights hearing ONCE more unto the breach, dear friends.... The “human rights” inquisition in the Collins case is to begin May 12, provided there are no fur- ther delays. So far, it has taken only three years. Delays are all part of the plot, of course. Our socialist government has money and time and the more delays there are the more it cests the defendants, not to men- tion the chill on column writing. My sin was to do a piece on the movie Schindler’s List and call it Swindler’s list. Plus suggesting that ic was part of the biggest pro- paganda exercise of the cen- tury. Om cue, the Canadian Jewish Congress (CJC) entered a complaint with the Human Rights Council. Not surprising, seeing it had iobbied for the anti-frec speech Human Rights Amendment Act (Bill 33). The all-embracing amendment allows com- plaints (charges) against anyone who verbally “dis- criminates” against anyone else or is “likely” to expose them to hatred or con- tempt. In short, keep quiet where politically powerful pressure groups are con- cerned. Meanwhile, such groups can discriminate as much as they like by calling other people “racists” and “anti- Semites.” We are not sup- posed to answer back. In this Age of Orwell and Doublespeak, “human rights” means human wrongs. That's why the NDP removed the right to free speech from the provincial statutes. Not to worry. The real defendants will not be the News and Collins. They will be the NDP, the B.C. Human Rights Commission, and the CJC. They constitute the greatest danger to the media — and thus to public discussion — since the Alberta Press Act was defeated in 1938. They can be compared to Maurice Duplessis, the Quebec premier who pre- vented Jehovah’s Witnesses standing on street corners with their pamphlets until the courts decided other- wise. Tam not the most popu- lar man with our politically correct local dailies. But even they have had to deplore this legislation, while making it clear that they wouldn’t invite me over for dinner. The best criticism has come from elsewhere. When Bill 33 became law the Globe & Mail described it as “A criminal abuse of human rights.” The Publisher, which is put out by the Community Newspapers Association, said it was “a dangerous restriction.” “Everyone involved with newspapers should be con- cerned with what is happen- ing in B.C.,” it commented. “Doug Collins,” it went on, “has and expresses strong views but he does not write hate literature. If groups or individuals who disagree with him can use the B.C. Human Rights Act to silence him, there is little doubt that the tide will move swiftly against others in B.C. and across the coun- try.” The CJC and the NDP knew very well that I could Your Musney can work for you, 24 hours a day.
