Car thefts OVER $34 million was paid out to B.C. car theft victims during the fiest nine months of this year. Thefts from cars cost an additional $18 million. The insurance industry estimates that between $160 million and $320 million are paid for fraudulent or ex- agegerated claims. Greater Vancouver Crime Stoppers, members of the pubic and ICBC have worked together this year to solve: @ six cases of auto theft ($134,000 worth of vehicles re- covered); ® one case of theft from auto ($25,000 worth of prop- erty recovered); ® five cases of fraud or public mischief ($75,000 worth of claims denied). The public can help. to reduce losses by not leaving keys in cars and by locking aif valuables in the trunk.
