Someone, it seems, is trying to fill the boots Doug Collins left behind. Good fuck. The issue of the Lions Gate Tennis Club is not who owns and occupies it but the extra traffic and the changes it would bring with the closure of the Lloyd Avenue exit. It wouldn’t matter what special in- terest group had control of the site, I would oppose the changes on these grounds. As this newspaper is well aware, there are Ministry of Highways drawings that propose as the ultimate plan the closure of Lloyd Avenue on both sides of the high- way. I was told by the Highways Department that no one knows what will happen to the Westview-Capilano stretch of highway until the drawings are finalized. This could take years. In light of this no further devel- opment or changes should take place at the tennis club until high- way access can be guaranteed. Further, I take offence at being called a racist as do my neighbors. My initial concern was to inform the area residents of the proposed changes at the tennis club. Very Lutheran church seeks Dear Editor: We, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, wish to thank you for caliing attention to the traffic problem that is focussed at Lioyd and Gladwin. Our congregation, which has been here for 28 years, is also planning an expansion of our facil- ity. We are a growing church. We also hope that an expanded facility could better serve community groups on the North Shore. The traffic problem focuses not only on a new Ismaili Centre but also on our parish. We have tried, over the past two years, to get information from the Department of Highways regard- ing proposed changes in the high- way. We are as much in the dark as the North Vancouver District is, in terms of highway expansion. The proposed expansion of these two facilities invites the Highways Red Herring Deer Editor: Your Oct. 15 editorial, Red Herring, about the proposed Ismaili Centre was unfair, unjust and uncalled for. Most people were concerned about the traffic at the end of a potential dead-end road. My apologies to the Ismaili community if they have been of- fended or feel discriminated against. This was not my or our intention. It is my intention, however, to help protect and preserve the neighborhood we choose to raise our children in.
