Shore residents Sa By PAT RICH Safety must be the primary consideration in deciding whether the Hooker Chemical plant moves off the North Shore, according to a majority of North Shore residents polled last week. In a survey carried out by the North Shore News, 378 people were phoned and asked the following question: “What do you think is more important in moving the Hooker Chemical plant off the North Shore? a) the safety aspect, b) the loss of revenue.” Of those people polled, 61 per cent felt the safety aspect 1S Most important, while nine per cent said loss of revenue was the most important factor. Twenty-seven per cent said they didn't know, while another two per cent said both factors were more important and one per cent said they didn’t care. When the statistics are simplified to deal only with those who answered either safety or revenue, an overwhelming 86.5 per cent indicated safety was more important, while 12.5 per cent answered revenue. The survey followed a meeting last week when 150 people living in the Maplwood area passed a resolution demanding that the three levels of govern- ment act to negotiate the relocatuon of the chlonne production plant.
