a tradition.”

Set for 8 a.m., the 30-minute
service will be ‘‘a tribute where we

remember and celebrate the resur- .

rection of Jesus,’’ Norris said of
the open-air event.

“We celebrate. (Easter) by get-

ting together. — we sing: a few
hymns and then there will be a
brief message. Of course,
everybody is welcome to come.”’
- And the city wants to make the
service an annual event, he said.
“The City of North Vancouver
wants to have it annually at the
(Lonsdale) Quay area.”

to forget in our history,”’ theatre
publicist Laura Anderson said of
the internment of Japanese Cana-
dians during the war.

North Shore actress Jane Nimi,
a Canadian of Japanese descent
who spent eight years in an in-
ternment camp, plays Betty Mat-
sui, mother of the young girl.

‘‘We really have to thank Steve

Petch and Bill Millard for writing
this and for putting this on and br-
inging this (history) out into the
open," she said.

‘People are not aware of what
happened to Japanese Cana-
dians,”’ Nimi added.

‘(The play) will make people
more aware of what happened —
it’s history.”

Petch, 34, chose to write the
play out of what he calls fun-
damental justice. “It’s one thing

that doesn’t go away no matter
how much you try to forget.

“T could never believe it as a
kid. 1 could just not belicve we
could have done this to our own
people, to Canadians,’’ Petch
recalled of his youth.

Working mostly out of Toronto,
Another Morning is the West Van-
couver writer's first full-length
production to be presented in a
Vancouver-area theatre.

“T think there will be more in

the future,’’ predicted the play-
wright.

In addition to Petch and Nimi,
the play also features another
North Shore actress, Donna
Yamamoto, who portrays the
young Japanese girl, Barbara,
