Mailbox Dear Editor: I read with interest the editor- in-chief’s column Focus entitled Facts vs. Fancy in West Van as well as the letters to the editor written by F.P. Bernard and A.W. Davidson appearing on pages 6 and 7 of your Wednesday, Nov. 12 issue. Unfortunately, the absence of letters from: supporters of Don Lanskail gives undeniable proof to the allegation that Noel Wright, through his close association with Derrick Humphreys, has prejudic- ed his position as a champion of Derrick Humphreys and has most seriously damaged his position as 2 newsman, columnist and editor. Your plea and that of Messrs. Bernard and Davidson is essential- ly that the incumbent be given two more years to assist in the celebra- tion of West Vancouver’s forth- coming 75th anniversary celebra- tion. Why? At the ail-candidates meeting at Park Royal, I asked two key ques- tions of Derrick Humphreys. He suggested I obtain answers as best 1 could at the municipal hall the following day. The following day being Remembrance Day, | sought answers on Wednesday and Thursday. First question: mayor’s office predecessor? Answer: The mayor receives both taxable and non-taxable in- come and expenses approximating $50,000 per annum which intudes his activities on the GVRD and other public bodies paid for by the taxpayers. This compared with approximately $16,000 received by his predecessors. Second question: the municipal legal costs under Humphreys’ stewardship relative to his predecessors? Answer: Over the eight years Derrick Humphreys nas been mayor, the total legal costs have been $1,003,000. This compares with total legal costs of $172,000 borne by the municipality over the eight-year period prior to his tak- ing office. V.O. Morgan West Vancouver (EDITOR-IN-CHIEF’S NOTE: The second paragraph of reader Morgan’s letter contains a serious and damaging falsehood. The facts are as follows, Out of a total of 31 election letters received up to the deadline for our Friday, Nov.14 issue, 23 were printed — including alt eight for West Van mayoral candidate Don Lanskail and 12 of the 17 for incumbent West Van the cost of the relative to his Tidy-up thanks Dear Editor: I sincerely thank those who were supportive of me yesterday. , If any of my signs remain, i would be most helpful if sip- porters would remove them. Reasons for not printing the re- mainder were potential libel or contempt of court, and (in five cases) arrival too late for space in our two ‘‘tight’’ eve-of-election editions. I take pride in our record of printing the maximum possible number of letters in the order we received them. NOEL WRIGHT) A. JOHN LAKES and JAMES L. STRAITH are pleased to announce that William J.
