THE FRIENDS of the West
Vancouver Memoria!
Library are hoping to sur-
pass last year's record suc-
cess when they hold their
Spring booksale’ at the
Library March 24-30.

In order to avoid over-
crowding at the start, the
Library will open for
booksale purposes only at
8:30 a.m. on Sunday the 24.
Regular Library services will
not be available until the
usual time of 1 p.m.

Most sale items will be
available at a standard price:
$1 for a hardcover book and
25 cents for a paperback.
Some reference works will
cost a bit more.

For weeks already the
volunteer Friends of the
Library have been sorting
the books into categories
and storing them in boxes,
ready for display on the 24,

A NORTH Vancouver resi-
dent’s kitchen got the hot oil
treatment Friday when some
oil overheated on a stove
and burst into flames in an
apartment in the 700 block
Westview Crescent.

ignited, with flames jumping
to the cupboards above the
stove, melting the plastic
around the stove'’s fan and
blackening the ceiling.

The fire was reportedly
extinguished by the tenant
by the time fire crews arrived
at the scene.

“People should use ex-
treme caution when heating
oil, making sure the oil is
not turned up too high or
left unattended,’ said
Scanes.
