WEST Vancouver school
board's new career
preparation program for
students could be in trouble
in the future.

That was the message in a
report from Arnie Miller to
board members.

He stated: “The cutback
of staff time, already in-
dicated for next year, will
have a very negative effect
on this program, perhaps to
the point of destroying the

excellent start made _ this
year.”

The program was in-
stigated in March and in the
report it was shown that
dunng the last six weeks of
the term a number of
qualified students were
placed in the business worid
for a work experience
session.

These students” will
receive a career preparation
program certificate at the
end of this month.

were sold at North Van-
couver City’s Japanese
Festival at the end of April,
City council was told recent-

ly.

City Administrator Ed
Raymond said in a report
that the festival cost $721.56
to stage, leaving a shortfall
of $256.56.

One of the purposes of the
festival was to sell the pain-
tings, which were donated
by an artist from North Van-
couver's Japanese sister city,
Chiba.

Raymond said there will
be a further report on what
should be done with the
paintings that weren't sold.
