Babe Ruth plans well underway

The middle of winter may
not be the traditional time to
be thinking about baseball
but the North Vancouver
Baseball Association is
making plans for their
upcoming 1983 season.

The N.V.B.A., formed in
1955 and approaching its
29th year of operation
participates in the Babe
Ruth Baseball program.
Babe Ruth Baseball is a non-
profit educational

organization dedicated to

developing better citizens by
providing properly super-
vised baseball competition
for 13-18 year old players.
The league promises an
exciting season highlighted
by appearances of players
from the Vancouver
Canadians Baseball Club at
special events and

the |

sponsoring of a Tournament
of Champions at the end of
the season.

Registration forms have
been mailed to all last season
participating players and to
Little League graduates from
the Forest Hills, Capilano,
Mt. Seymour and Jaycee
clubs. Public registration
will be held March 5, at the
North Vancouver
Recreation Centre, 23rd and
Lonsdale from 2 to 4 P.M. in
the main foyer. Players 13 to
18 who are residents of
North and West Vancouver
are eligible for registration
to play in the PREP (13 year
olds only). JUNIOR (14-15

years old) or SENIOR (16-18

year old) divisions.

Club recently hosted their
24th Annual Hockey
Jamboree with an exciting
championship game at the
Novice Level. North Van
Rec. Centre and North
Shore Winter Club played to

Shore Winter Club scored
with 46 seconds remaining
which earned the NSWC
team the Novice Title.

an opportunity for 13 year
olds to play in their own age
group for a full season. This
program acts as a transition
to prepare Little Leaguers to
hurdle the gap to the more
mature leagues.

Following registration,
tryouts for team placement
will be held March 19 and
29th at Mahon Park.

Opening Day, April 23rd,
will feature a pre-game mini-
clinic conducted by piayers

from the Vancouver
Canadians. Pre-game
ceremonies will include

team pictures, a parade of
teams and opening addresses
from dignitaries from North
Vancouver City and District.
Fen Burdett, a league player
and recently inducted into
the B.C. Baseball Roll of
participate in the
ceremonies.

An umpire clinic will be

organized during the month
of April for all persons in-
terested in becoming a
qualified carded umpire. All
North Vancouver leagues
are invited to participate.
With expansion planned for
1983, the Babe Ruth League

_will be playing their games at

Mahon Park, Myrtle Park
and Inter-River Park.

The season will culminate
with a B.C. Provincial
Toumament of Champions.
North Vancouver has been
selected the site of the 1983
Babe Ruth ‘Tournament of
Champions for the Junior
division consisting of 14 and

15 year olds from all over the .

province. This Tournament
will be held at Mahen Park

during the last week of July.
North Vancouver Babe Ruth
has had an admirable record
in toummament competition.
In 1981 the North Van-
couver team, under the
management of Bill Beckett,
won the toumment and
advanced to the Nerth West
Regionals held in Trail, B.C.

This season the Seniors
(16-18 yrs.) will again be

participating in an inter-
locking schedule with 6
Vancouver basebali teams,
and we have an opening for

an experienced Senior
Coach at this level:
