ICBC ‘best deal’ says gov't

B.C. DRIVERS with a three
year claim-free record pay
less for their car insurance
than motonsts claiming a
five year discount through
private insurance companies
in other provinces,  ac-
cording to the Insurance
Corporation of B.C.

The government-run auto
insurance monopoly had a
national Management
consulting firm carry out a
Series of surveys on car
insurance rates across
Canada, and the third report

reveals this new statistic.

According to the report,
in 40 ~~ out-of-province
premiums quoted, only one
was less than the com-
parative B.C. figure. In some
cases, they were double or
triple the local premium.

ICBC rates were com-
pared to those offered by
Commercial Union,
Fireman’s Fund, Royal
Insurance and Zurich In-
surance.

For a three year claim-free
record with no under age 25

driver, the Vancouver rate
was $448. But for a five year

claim-free driver with no.

under age 25 driver,
rates varied between
(CU) to $458 (Zurich) in
Toronto and $1,070 (CU)
and $813 (Zurich) in
Montreal.

Vancouver rate again was

rate in Toronto varied from
