An 18-year-old West
Vancouver youth told Judge
Kenneth Husband recently
that without his dnving
licence he would not be able
to go to work and earn the
money to pay his court fine
for an impaired driving
charge.

The judge had fined
Stephen Granger, of 5843
Falcon Road, $400 for
driving while impaired and
$50 for refusing to blow into
a breathalyzer, with an
alternative of 14 days in jail
for failure to pay the fines.

Granger, who pleaded
guilty to both offences, told
West Van Provincial Court
that he worked in Burnaby
as a construction laborer and
had to be at work at 7:30
a.m. Without his licence, he
said, he would not be able to
go to work, in which case he
would not be able to pay the
fines.

Judge Husband told him:
“TH give you a period of four
months in which to pay the
fine and if during that ume
you haven't paid it you'll just
have to go to satl, that’s all.”

Crown counsel Marion
Paruk said Granger was
stopped in a car by police in
the 2300) block Haywood
Avenue at about 12:50 a.m.,
January 19.

The police had cautioned
a number of youths on the
block about a small party
being held there The
youths pot into a car and
drove away and Granger was
identified as the driver.
