Below, the. Society for
Pollution and. En-
vironmental Control (SPEC)
offers a few practical
|suggestions on ways of:
enjoying Christmas to the
full, while, at the same time,
reducing the seasonal
demands it makes on ‘the
environment:

1. Buy gifts which show
good conservation sense.
Shop carefully and purchase

goods which will last — don't,

buy disposable items. Don't
buy unnecessary gadgets.

2. Save the wrapping paper
on any gifts received — you
can use it again next year,
helping to conserve | our
|forest resources.

3. This year get a living
Christmas tree which can be
planted | in your own yard,
piven to a gardening friend

or an organization § to.

beautify their grounds.

4. If you're
Christmas lights this year,
keep the arrangement
modest. Don’t put them up
too carly, and don't leave
them up well into the new
year, Don't turn them on
until. after the peak load
hours (5-7 p.m.) and turn
them off before going to bed.
