Walter Erwin was the third
lighthouse keeper at Point
Atkinson in Lighthouse Park.

_ The first two were Edwin

Woodward and _ Robert
Wellwood in that order. Born
in Montreal, Que. on August
13, 1853, Erwin’s parents
were from Irvinestown, north
of Enniskillen, Ireland. -

- In 1873 Erwin decided to
come west, travelling
through the United States. In
May of the same year. he
arrived in Victoria, but

stayed there only a short
time. After coming to Bur-

King of England bestowed

upon him the Imperial.

Service Medal. It was pre-
sented to him in the City Hail
in Vancouver by the then
Mayor L.D. Taylor, on March
11, 1911.

first formed. Ill health for
several months finally
brought Erwin to his death
on August 16th, 1921, and
two days later he was buried
at Mountain View Cemetery.

Erwin Point in West
Vancouver was named in his
honour.
