THE RECENT announcement by the National Basketball
Association (NBA) that Vancouver would be awarded a con-
ditional franchise was met with cheers from local sports
fans, Since then, however, there has been a lot of speculation
about the tean’s name, The Mounties. There has been tatk
that an American company exists that could make market-
ing the new team’s logo, name and merchandise difficult.

For whatever reasons, some people just don't fike the name
proposed, while others do. Arthur Griffiths has said-that'
they were considering calling the team the Vancouver, Force
as well. North Shore News sports editor Andrew McCredie
has asked for submissions from local fans who have alter-:
nate name proposals for the team which he will forward | to
the team.
