14 - Friday, June 26, 1992 — North Shore News Youth art works! YOUTH ART Works, otherwise known as YAW, is offering a series of inter- esting workshops and retreats this summer. They include: Act it out! A two-week acting workshop exploring voice, improvisation, masks and more. Participants will access thier own stories and then act them out, creating their own dramas. 6 sessions: July 6-17; $120, Our Environment as inspiration Five-day intensive series which will draw on the images and ma- terials found in the local en- vironment. Based in Lynn Canyon Park. 5 sessions: July 27-31; $65. Black and white photography Expand your knowledge of photography as an art form. Ses- sions include slide shows of photographers’ work, developing and printing techniques, critiques of participants’ works. Film and paper provided. 8 sessions: July 7-30; S115 Silkscreening T-shirts and fabrics Complete your own multi- colored T-shirt and learn the printing process. Screens, inks T- shirts and equipment provided. 4sessions: July 5-26; $90 Woodblock Printing Introduction to traditional Jap- anese woodblock carving and multi-color printing techniques. 6 sessions: July 6-17; $65. Giant puppets take over the world Design and build your puppet from scratch using found and recycled materials. Long weekend intensive: July 31, Aug. 1-3; $70. Fabric Arts In mini-workshops learn batik, basket-weaving, banner weaving, fabric dyeing and more. 6 sessions: July 7-23; $65. Radical radio takeover Learn how to conduct effective interviews, edit tape, operate the mixing board, set up microphones, plan the show ~- everything. Show has the potential to break into a weekly radio show on non-commercial FM. 5 sessions: July 1-29; $60 Take it to press Learn step-by-step process for producing a fanzine, magazine or poster with young publishers from writing the aricles, doing design and lay out, to taking it to the prinier. 6 sessions: July 2,9,16,20,22,24; 60. Youth TV project Learn Hi-8 video camera operation, interviewing, lighting, designing shows, acting in front of the camera, To be aired on local cable TV. July 2,3,4,11,18, 25; $75. Youth Art Works is also offer- ing two retreats, both for ages 15-19 in August. The retreats are 6 days of camping and hiking in the wilderness of Vancouver Island.
