cheese. The dressing had a mild
garlic punch.

Entrees sampled: the evening's
special Fresh Swordfish ($16.95)
and the Boathouse sampler
($19.95).

The Swordfish was finished ina
sweet and sour glaze and served
with a mango and sun-dried
tomato-chutney.

Though a promising cambina-
tion, the chutney was far too
swect to add any zesty bite to the
fish.

An advertised garnish of Spot
Prawn was not on the plate.

The sampler, meanwhile,
featured grilled prawns, swordtish
and tuna over ‘‘a pool of cajun
butter,”’

But the pool turned out to be a
mildly interesting cajun cream
sauce topping the fish.

Vegetable accompaniment tor
both dishes was the standard slic-
ed carrot and zucchini melange. A
heap of white rice filled out the
plates.

Overall the meals were far too
uninteresting for the price.

The restaurant's Kids’ Menu ot-
fers three choices — hamburger.
chicken strips, fish and chips — at
$6.95 each.

Portions are big and the price
includes fruit salad, scurdough
bread, a drink and Boathouse
fries. Crayons are aiso provided for
menu decoration and offspring
distraction, which is vital to har-
monious family dining.

We passed on the dessert selec-
tion, which iacluded Pecan Pie
($4.50), Fresh Strawberries with
accompanying chocotate, Grand
Marnier fondue ($4.95) and
Nanaimo Bar ($3.95).

Service was quick and accom-
modating throughout the meal.

The Boathouse is blessed with a
premier West Coast location that
cries out for good West Coast
seatood. Some more finesse in its
kitchen could satisfy those cries.
