MAILBOX North Shore needs Northlands Dear Editor: As a new resident and tax- payer of. the North Vancouver Disiiict 1 write this letter ia connection with the controver- sy over the new proposed Nor- thlands Golf Course. I selected golf as a recre- ational outlet for my retirement years, In preparation for this period in my life I took lessons at the Seymour Golf and Country Club fast year. I learned at that time that the club was no longer accepting people for membership or even allowing names to be placed on public on that course. Thus, | have been forced to go to Richmond or Vancouver and even Maple Ridge to play the game. It was very disap- pointing to learn that the board of directors for Seymour have ruled that the general public cannot even use the driving range outside of the designated public days this year. Having lived in Richmond all my adult life where they have six public courses, and seven driving ranges, ! find it hard to understand that the two North Shore communities with the highest per capita income in In comparison to. other communities, I feel that North Vancouver has more than ade- quate park facilitics which total 107, not including another 21 tennis courts (which sit idle for almost three-quarters of the year), 14 boat launching facili- ties and 45 other major public recreation facilities. In view of the high percent- age of people in the retirement age bracket over the next 10 years, : feel rather distressed to learn that the district is even considering the possibility of deleting the Northlands Public Golf Course.
