NVD alderman fails in bid
to ban dangerous chemicals

ALD. ERNIE Crist failed Monday
tight in his attempt to convince
the rest of North Vancouver
District Council to exclude haz-
ardous chemical industries from
being an acceptible use in the
Maplewood Official Community
Plan,

‘There has been a clear lack of
leadership by this council concern-
ing the chemical indust |" Crist
said.

‘*Plans to evacuate people out
of the area in the case of an
emergency are ludicrous. he
stated.

Acknowledging that lithe could
be done about such industries al-
ready present in the district, Crist
suggested they be deemed a
‘non-conforming use’’ within the
