New committee

THE NORTH Vancouver School
Board has established a new com-
mittee with representation from
District 44 teachers, {rustees,
parents and other community
groups to help provide better
communication between the board
and North Vancouver residents.

The Community Relations
Committee (CRC) was organized
by North Vancouver School
District 44 trustce Anne Mac-
donald to provide what she says
will ke ‘‘a two-way dialogue’ be-
tween the school board and North
Vancouver residents.

The board, she said, previously
had provisions for a public rela-
tions body, but it had been inactive
for some time.

“So what I wanted to do,’’ she
said, “‘was reactivate it as a com-
munity relations, rather than just a
public relations, committee.”’

Macdonald, who is also the
committee's chairman, said, when
she began her present trustee’s
term last year, she saw a need for
better communication between the

parents and area residents.

CRC is made up of repre-
sentatives from the North Van-
couver Chamber of Commerce,
area service clubs, parents, prin-
cipals, the North Vancouver
Teachers Association and the
school District 44 board.

The committee's primary man-
dates are to keep North Vancouver
informed of educational activities,
to provide additional means of
communication between the com-
munity ‘nd the school district, and
to reinforce the importance of
education as a social service.

Macdonald said CRC will give
area residents a chance to voice
opinions and thereby feel a greater
participation in the development of
the District 44 school system.

to get under way next spring and

children in the school system, or
has attended school in North Van-

Details of the project, she said,
will be released in early January.

The next scheduled CRC
meeting is Dec. 7.
