NORTH SHORE 10 PIN Jeffries bowls to B.C. first place NORTH VANCOUVER'S Donna Jeffries placed first in the annual B.C. Provincial Women's Queens 10-pin bowling tournament heid at Brentwood Lanes in Burnaby on Nov. 15 and 16. In the 13-year history of the tournament, Jeffries is the first woman to win the tide twice. She took home $300 for her victory. Second place in the tournament, which attracted 63 entries, was won by Burnaby’s Shirley Burnett. Jean Gordon took third place. In other bowling action, Mark Innes of North Vancouver took top prize of $450 in the men's Western Bowlers Association tournament at Thunderbird Lanes on Nov. 16. Innes was the high bowler in the four-game qualifying round and went on to bowl games of 236, 216, 257 and 280 in the head-to- head match play competition. He bowled a 243 game to defeat Al Boyd’s 215. Boyd placed second for $300 and Jan MacPherson won third place of $200. In the Avaion Hotel All-Star League, left-handed John Vinters tried for the elesive 300 game but after 10 strikes in a row, he had an eight count and a spare in the final frame. He had to settle for a tremen- dous 288 game. Jack Major bowled a high four-game series of 826 with games of 218, 186, 180 and 242. Manny Demelo ard Colin Shott both rolled single games of 244. It was Vinters again who came up with the big games in the Dug- gan West insurance Mixed Trio League at Thunderbird Lanes. He rolled 235, 244, 222 and 247 for a 948 four-game total. The Tearoe team of Kathie MacPherson, Derilyn Tearve and Al Boyd took over the team high four-game series in the league with a 2,754, including handicap. MacPherson has a 154 average and bowled a 174 and a 180 game. Tearoe bowled a 257 game and Boyd had four games of 204, 243, 226 and 234 for a 907 scratch series. Jan Crock was the high bowler for the women with an 809 series and games of 178, 193, 203 and 235. The Royalette Ladies at Lions Gate Lanes saw the 49ers team of Marjorie Wickham, Toni Chilliak and Denny Nicholson bow! a high three-game series of 2,135 in- cluding handicap. Betty Pasternak bowled a three-game series of 553 with games of 192, 174 and 187. Inga Eskesen followed closely behind with games of 170, 180 and 180 for a 530 total. Bowling in the Lions Gate Ladies Trio League, Joan Dickey rolled a four-game series of 754 with games of 194, 214, 178 and 168. Karen Kirk had a 202, 174, 187 and 185 for a total of 748 and Mae Smith rolled a 7i8 four-game series. In the Nestes Coffee Doubles League, Garey Empey holds a 148 average and rolled games of 184, 213 and 180 for a 577 total. Sandra Chadwick bowled a high four-game series of 817 with games of 177, 200, 213 and 227, Marilyn Moscovitch had a four-game series of 754 and Kerri Thorburn rolled a great 246 single game. The doubles team of Mimi Donald and Doug Thompsea posted the high team single game of 506 including 98 pins handicap. Donald bowled a 183 game and Thompson had a 225 game. In the Lions Gate Lanes Youth Program five-year-old Russell Clark bowled games of 37 and 45 in the bantam division. Steve Carrell had a high single game of 158 to help his Pin Busters team to a 1,727 three-game total, including handicap. Nicholas Daniels, also on the Pin Busters team, was bowler of the week with 106 pins over his three-game average. Brian Eskesen was the top bowl- ’ y $ er in the senior division with games of 241, 184 and 161 for a 586 total. Kevin Penn rolled the next high three-game series of 514 with games of 190, 144 and 180. Lee Donaldson bowled the girls’ high series of 445 in the senior division.
