Ratepayers Association has

elecuion issue on this matter
The truth is, with the limited
resources available to a
volunteer group. a great deal
of time was necessary to
assemble all the data received
from our survey. and to pro-
duce the final presentation
report

It had always been public
knowledge that we intended
to submit our findings to
Council. We surely did not
spend hundreds of manhours
to do nothing, just because
the Council decided to shelve
the report! After all, we had
obtained a lot of valuable in-

formation, which would be
of use to Council and the Ad-
visory Planning Authority
Secondly, the way in which
the C ouncil received the statt
report and recommendations
document certainly did not
reassure us that a polices to
reintroduce infill duplex units
and townhouses into single
family zoned areas would not
come back again within a
comparatively short) period
of time. Only thirteen mon-
ths previously. a spot up-
soning proposal in lower
Ambleside was defeated only
after vehement opposition by

the local residents. |) was

result of this particular spot-
voning defeat, the staff's in-
fill housing report was
presented to Council on the

themselves who raised the
possibility of having a public
hearing. We did not demand
it, as Suggested in your arti-
cle) Of course we would be
pleased to participate in a
pubhe meeting, should Coun-
cul decide to hold one
