Fulton Adult Day Care
Centre is now in its 11th
year of operation.

Located at 11th and St.
Georges in North Van-
couver, the Centre provides
a respite for families who
face the demanding task of
providing round the clock
care for an impaired or

disabled relative. Members-

may have visual, hearing or
memory loss. Most are
seniors while others are
younger adults who need
supervision.

Especially when members
of the care-giving family
have to work, many seniors
face a long day in isolation -
a situation fraught with both
physical and psychological
dangers. The day care centre
alleviates this problem by of-
fering much needed social
and recreational activities. A
program of exercises,
games, crafts, music, sing-
ing, reading and entertain-
ment is provided, the latter
being carefully tailored to
each individual's wishes and
abilities. Over a period of
time, the Centre helps par-
ticipating members regain
their sense of self worth
which has often been damag-
ed or destroyed by physical
or mental impairment.

One particularly popular
part of the program is the
nutritious noon meal which
caters to special diets. For
many, this delicious repast
served in a family-like at-
mosphere is the highlight of
the day.

The Centre serves North.
Shore residents from
Horseshoe Bay to Deep
Cove and is open from Mon-
day to Pnday from nine till

five in the evening. Members
may come once or several
times a week for a full or a
half day.

Funding for the Centre is
provided through the Pro-
vincial Government, the
United Way and local and
municipal governments. A
daily fee of $4 is normally
charged to members
