Controversy and excite-
ment involving two North
Vancouver drivers high-
lighted the last race for this
season in the C.A.S.C.-
Formula Ford series, held in,
Westwood the past
weekend.

On the track the. Vivitar-
' Kits Camera team finished
‘first -and ‘second, which
meant Michael Clifford, by
winning, could have cap-
‘tured the series’ champion:
ship. and Peter Keefe, in
second place, would have
recorded his best result of
his novice year.

However, off the track,
Andy Mahood, who finished
third, and his Pentax team
filed a protest against the
eligibility of the Peter Keefe
car. The controversy
centered on the ‘fact that
Keefe’s car had been
qualified on Saturday by the
Copa West-sponsored Pieter
Baljet. Pieter had handily
won the GTI series this year
in his Camaro and it had
been speculated for some
time now that he would
debut in Formula Ford with
the Vivitar-Kits Camera
team, after accompanying
them to both the Nationals in
Gimli, Manitoba and the
Grand Prix in Montreal.
However, on Saturday, after
it became evident Keefe’s

adjustments to ac-
commodate Baljet, it was

decided Keefe would run his
car in the last race.

In pre-gridding Keefe,
anticipated starting at the
end of the grid, but was
placed in Baljct's qualifying

position, despite his
querying of this decision.

the Pentax team; citing
incorrect pre-gridding of the
Keefe car as reason for its
possible disqualification.
Within hours race stewards
had ruled against the protest
because they felt there was
sufficient time for inaccurate
pre-gridding to have been
observed and protested
before the race actually
started. However, they also
gave the Pentax team the
option for an appeal, which
