District Fire Chief Bob MacDonald later confirmed to the News: “The circum- stances of the incident are similar to what is said to have happened in Missis- saugua, on a much smaller scale.” CN Railway spokesman A} Menard said Friday that the cause of the 4:30 a.m. derail- ment was a mystery but it was suspected it was “some- thing to do with the track.” North Vancouver District Fire Department and RCMP were immediately notified of the incident by CN = and attended the scene in a standby capacity. Two of the four derailed cars became burned tn gravel beside the track and slipped off their undercarmages.
