month for a World Vision sponsorship,
while their relatives will be able to write
letters and develop a relationship with the
child.

After taking on the sponsorship of six
children for themselves, they picked
eight more for Christmas gifts.

But among those [+ children was one
they hadn't expected.

Mwasingo Mwangondi, a six-year-old
boy trom Kenya, was the 250,000th child
sponsored by a Canadian through World

- Vision.

That meant they recently found them-
selves the centre of attention in their
Deep Cove home.

Two representatives, one from
Toronto and cne from B.C.’s regional
office, joined them to celebrate the quar-
ter-millionth milestone.

And while their Christmas shopping
may have been done fast, they deliberat-
ed for weeks whether it was the right
thing to give.

“We didn’t want anyone to feel bad
for buying a sweater,” said John.

“We thought about it and prayed
about it for a long time.”

They also thought it was

likely never be in the same room — could
do together.

And while the sponsorship of 14 chil-
dren is a significant commitment, they
also point out that even a dollar a di
goes a long way to help one child.

“We take a lot of things for granted,”
said Shadow.

“We spend two dollars in the morning
on coffee and a muffin.”
