Heroin seized

MEMBERS OF the North Vancouver RCMP drug sec-
tion arrested two young offenders recently after the two
were seen Selling narcotics.

A police spokesman said that at about 5:40 p.m. on
March 31, drug squad members. were conducting
surveillance at the corner of 57th Street and Knight
Street in Vancouver when they observed a known drug
dealer purchase a quantity of narcotics from two young
Oriental males.

RCMP Cpl. Mike Littlejolin said the two Oriental
males are known gang members and are suspected of
supplying the North Shore with narcotics. .

Police seized half an ounce (14 grams) of pure heroin,
with an estimated street value of $5,000.

“The heroin trade is growing on the North Shore and
that is why we will continue to. step up cur enforce-
ment," said Littlejohn. ;

Drug sentencing

A MAN who was convicted earlier this year of criminal
negligence causing ‘death in connection with a 1991 acci-
dent that killed a West Vancouver woman was sentenced
to six months in. jail in B.C. Supreme Court Tuesday
. after pleading guilty to a charge of possession of a nar-
cotic. _ :
* Jn February, Laverne Darrell Vanlerberghe, 51, was
sentenced to two years fess a day and was piven a 10-year
driving suspension after he was found guilty of criminal
negligence causing death. ,
Vanlerberghe was found guilty of criminal negligence
causing death after West Vancouver resident Ingaborg
Von Schlack, 56, was. struck on Marine Drive at 19th
Street on March 30, 1991.
- "A Mazda RX7. drove off the road, mounted a side-
_ walk, struck Von Schlack and crashed into'a nearby Esso
gas stztion where the vehicle burst into flames.

- Vanlerberghe was charged with possession of cocaine |

‘for the purpose, of trafficking after he: was observed
ethrowing something into 2. dumpster while in the under-
ground: parking lot of the West Vancouver Police sta-
tion, where he had been taken for questioning.
_} He opted'to. plead guilty to a lesser charge of posses-
‘sion of .s-narcotic rather. than to.a charge of possession
of a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking. a
