Guild
holds
quilt
exhibit

THE LIONS Gate Quilters’
Guild is holding a three-day
quilt show beginning Fri-
day, May 8 at the Lucas
Centre, 2132 Hamilton Ave.
in North Vancouver.

The show, called Album of
Quilts, marks the public debut of
the guild, which started in 1987
with 18 members all dedicated to
promo. an appreciation of
quilting in the guild and = the
community. Today there are 136
members.

Organizers say most people
associate quilts with cozy images
and comforting thoughts. ‘*Seeing
a quilt can be like a warm, visual
hug us well as an adventure in ar-
tistic enlightenment,”” says show
coordinator Dolores Bell.

“Everyone loves quilts,
everyone has at least one memory
of a quilt and almost’ everyone
gets the urge to make a quilt. Few
items in our culture have been so
necessary, colorful, artistic,
cherished and cared for as a
quilt,” she adds.

On display will be 171 quilts
created by guild members. Items
for sale will range in price from
$50 to $800. There will also be a
merchants mall where fabrics,
quilting tools and books will be
sold.

The show will feature an educa-
tion display where visitors will see
demonstrations and be able to try
quilting techniques.

Visitors will have an opportun-
tiy to win a queen-sized Grand-
mothers Country Quilt, which
contains 2150 hand-quilted fabric
hexagons. Raffle tickets cost $1.

Album of Quilts runs from 10
a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 8,
10 am.to 6 p.m. on Saturday,
May 9 and from It a.m. to §

p.m. on Sunday, May. 10
EMother® s Day}.

The event is wheelchair ac-
cessible and refreshments will be
available.

Many guild members received
their introduction to quilting
through courses offered by North
Shore Continuing Education.
