A MUSIC program for bewinr «1s
aged three to eight years is now be-
ing offered on the North Shore
starting in September.

This program called Music For
Young Children (MYC) allows
children to develop musically
through singing, keyboard activi-
lies and rhythm ensemble. As well,
the children are introduced to note
reading, dynamics, and the fan-
guage of music.

Children meet in groups of four
to six, in their own age category
for one hour per week, accom-
panied by a parent. The group
allows for social interaction and
development; it encourages fisten-
ing awaseness and develops atten-
tion span, said program developer
Frances Balodis.

MYC was developed in 1980 by
Frances Balodis, B.A., B.E.D.,
M.E.D., A.R.C.T. The program is
now being taught in over 100 loca-
tions across Canada.
