Probation
for mischief

A 29-YEAR-OLD North Van-
couver man received a suspended
sentence Thursday in North Van-
couver provincial court and was
placed on probation for one year
after he was found guilty of
mischief.

John Benjamin Wells was origi-
nally charged in connection with a
Jan. 3 incident in which he stashed
three car tires. oe

Federal
child tax
payments
announced

ment of the Child Tax Credit in
Noveniber,

A cheque insert from Revenue
Canada Taxation will be sent with
all family allawanee cheques in
August to advise parents of the
pre-payment.

This will be the second yeu: for
the pre-payment, which became
effective last year as a result of a
legislative amendment by the gov-
ernment in November 1986,

The maximum Child Tax Credit
for 1987 is $489 — an increase of
$35 over the 1986 ameunt.

There is no need to apply for
this pre-payment, Parents will
automatically receive a cheque if
they received a Child Tax Credit
for 1986 for the child; if their net
family income for 1986 did not ex-
ceed $15,000; and if they will be
eligible to receive Family
Allowance benefits in) January
1988 for a child or children who
would be under age 18.

The balance of the credit may be
obtained by completing schedule
10 when filing a tax return far
1987,

The Child Tax Credit program is
administered by Revenue Canada.
To ensure prompt cheque delitery,
the pre-payment will be sent tthe
address shown by the taxpayer on
the 1986 income tax return.

Taxpayers should therefore ad-
vise the nearest Revenue Canada
Taxation office in writing of any
address change.

Children born in 1987 do not
qualify for the November pre-
payment of the credit. However,
parents will be able to claim the
full amount of the benefit for
children born this year when com-
pleting their 1987 tax returns.
