Dear Editor: What can be done to head off the certain death of a child, or children crossing Westview Drive between Queens Road and Upper Levels Highway on their way to Larson school in the morning? Thank. God that child was not mine this morning, though she very easily could have been. I had pressed the crosswalk button for her, the pedestrian light showed “Walk”, but had my child walked at that moment it would have been to her . death. A car driven by a youth with a girl next to him went shooting past us on the inside lane at the usual high speed that all motorists seem to travel on that route in the morning, generally zooming through a green light coming down from Delbrook. I got Clean up Lynn Valley Park mess Dear Editor: We live down the street from Lynn Valley Park and it is the only park in the GVRD area that we cannot walk in peacefully from March to October. It is not only littered with trash (ironic that it houses the Ecology Centre) but appears to be the primary hangout for beer drinkers. They are often so noisy, that the neighbors (whose taxes support the park) have to ask the police for assistance. There is a_ resident caretaker, but people walk past his place with their beer, his own dwelling is surrounded by trash, and people leave their car doors open and their car stereos on full blast, right in the main parking lot. . It is past time to see this mismanagement is stopped and that the park is properly supervised. I hope that other concerned residents will express their concern by writing to The Municipal Engineer (Parks Super- vision) 355 W. Queens, North Vancouver. I hope the North Shore News, as well, will in- vestigate this and support the efforts to make Lynn Valley Park a park once again. I have a witness, a mother whose child also goes to Larson School. While the principal of Larson School, Mr. K. Jackson, has undertaken to initiate procedures to obtain a human being to supervise the crossing, in addition to the pedestrian light, may I ‘ask why the police are never visible at that time in the morning at that well-known danger spot? I have learned that various efforts have been made by police in the past to get traffic to slow down on Delbrook and Westview Drives in the morning. But I cannot believe that the route could not be continually supervised, with speeding tickets to hand out as fast as they can be written! It is galling to think of the way ‘the police will stop and fine a driver for going 10 km per hour over a speed limit, generally by inadvertance, yet ignore blatant speeding by potential killers on a known route where children cross to school. I will keep you posted on the outcome of the charges I intend to lay against this morning's potential killer.
